Ahead of the highly anticipated Champions League showdown between Manchester City and Real Madrid, Ruben Dias has issued a strong message to the Spanish giants. The two teams, both recent Champions League winners, are facing off in the first leg of their play-off at the Etihad Stadium, with a spot in the round of 16 on the line. Dias believes that Manchester City’s star players have what it takes to defeat the reigning champions and keep their European hopes alive.

City, the 2023 Champions League winners, are looking to bounce back after falling out of the Premier League title race. Real Madrid, the current holders, have strengthened their squad with the addition of Kylian Mbappe, joining a formidable attacking lineup that includes Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., and Rodrygo. However, Dias is confident that City can overcome this challenge with their own firepower, stating that they have a wealth of talent in the squad that can turn the tie in their favor if they use it effectively.

“This season has been one of the toughest for us so far,” admitted Dias. “But we have a lot of quality in the squad, and with the right mindset, we can accomplish anything.” Dias acknowledged the strength of Real Madrid, calling them one of the toughest opponents in the competition, but emphasized that City’s defense needs to be solid to increase their chances of success. He believes that a strong defensive performance will create more opportunities for City to strike and put pressure on their opponents.

On the issue of Real Madrid's boycott of the Ballon d'Or ceremony in protest at Rodri’s victory over Vinicius Jr., Dias chose not to engage in the controversy. “I never thought about it for a second,” he said. “I was just happy and proud that Rodri won, and I celebrated with him.”

City manager Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, addressed the potential pressure on his position, especially if his team is eliminated in the Champions League. Guardiola expressed confidence, noting that he does not fear for his job, pointing out that his past successes with City provide him with job security. He also dismissed any concerns about his future, suggesting that his tenure is safe due to the accomplishments the team has already achieved under his guidance.
