Ghanaians React As Sam George Seeks Attorney General's Opinion On Ursula Owusu's Contracts

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has officially written to the Attorney General (AG) to seek a legal opinion on several contracts signed by his predecessor, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.

This move, which comes just weeks after Sam George assumed office, has sparked public discussions, with many wondering whether the contracts awarded under Ursula Owusu’s leadership contained any irregularities.

According to Sam George, the request for a legal review is aimed at ensuring that all agreements made by the previous administration were in the best interest of Ghanaians.

“There are contracts signed under the previous administration that need proper scrutiny to ensure they were in the best interest of Ghanaians,” he stated.

Sam George, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram on the ticket of the NDC, has clarified that his request is not a personal attack but rather an effort to promote transparency and accountability in Ghana’s communication and digital sector.

Sources close to the ministry indicate that some of the contracts being reviewed involve major telecommunications agreements, technology infrastructure projects, and digital transformation initiatives that were signed during Ursula Owusu’s tenure.

While there are no official allegations of corruption, many believe this review could reveal financial mismanagement or questionable procurement practices.

Now that the Attorney General’s office has been formally engaged, Ghanaians are waiting to see the outcome. If the legal opinion finds any irregularities, it could lead to a full-scale probe or even criminal investigations.

So far, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has not publicly responded to the matter, but the development has generated a lot of debate among Ghanaians.

Reactions from Netizens

@Kofik commented "Sam George is doing what every responsible leader should do. If there’s nothing to hide, why should anyone be worried?"

@Malik commented "This is just another political game. The NDC and NPP always go after each other, but at the end of the day, nothing changes."

@Abacus wrote "Good move! We need transparency in this country. Politicians must be held accountable for the contracts they sign with our money."

@Morethings wrote "I hope this doesn’t turn into a witch hunt. If there’s any wrongdoing, let the law take its course, but no unnecessary politics."

@Asare commented "Ghanaians are tired of these investigations that lead nowhere. Let’s wait and see if something concrete comes out of this."
