A startling revelation by the Save Ghana Movement has shaken the morning show of Fabea FM, exposing a glaring gap in Ghanaian identity and citizenship awareness.

According to the Save Ghana movement's research, a mere 5% of Ghanaians understand why they are Ghanaians, sparking concerns about the country's future development.

The Save Ghana Movement, a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting citizen empowerment and good governance, conducted extensive research and discussions to arrive at this 5% disturbing conclusion.

In an exclusive interview on Fabea FM's Me "Man Ho Dadwen" with Apiah-Kubi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Save Ghana Movement, Robert Andzie Ansah, emphasized the need for Ghanaians to understand their true identity and value.

"It's alarming that many Ghanaians don't know their true identity or value," he said.

"This lack of self-awareness is leading to feelings of powerlessness and disconnection from the country's development", he added.

The movement's findings also highlighted the derogatory term "ordinary Ghanaians" often used by politicians to describe citizens.

Governments are elected not to be rulers and masters but to be servants of the people. Citizens should choose governments which can fulfil their need for security, healthcare, meaningful employment, education, and a better life for their children. The needs of citizens can be met only if those who hold power practise good governance.

This phrase, the CEO argues, perpetuates a sense of inferiority and reinforces the notion that those in power are superior to the average citizens.

In response to these findings, the Save Ghana Movement is urging Ghanaians to take ownership of their country's development and demand better governance.

The concept of good governance encompasses all the practices of a state which result in viable economies and effective political bodies. Good governance equates with democracy. Good governance must include adherence to the rule of law, improving efficiency, accountability, and tackling corruption. Good governance is participatory, accountable, transparent, responsive, equitable and inclusive. Most administrations continue to fail to meet all of those established benchmarks. The rule of law has been impaired and government ministers and their friends can escape unpunished after committing the most egregious misconduct. The Constitution is nothing more than a plaything. The regime lacks transparency and holds itself accountable to no one. Corrupt practices have become the norm.

"Ghana is me and you, it's time for us to recognize our agency and responsibility in shaping the country's future. We must value ourselves and demand that our leaders do the same. Our MPs sometimes think they're doing us a favour", Andzie stated.

He therefore called to take action to resonated with many Ghanaians, to demand greater transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.

"it's time for Ghanaians to wake up and take control of their destiny", he concluded.
