Personal Insecurities Behind the Decision

Zicasloma explained that he had always been self-conscious about his nose, a source of childhood teasing and ridicule. “I’ve always had a very flat nose, and from childhood, I wished I could change it. My siblings would constantly tease me, saying, ‘Your nose is too big or too ugly,’ claiming I inherited too much of my father’s nose,” he recalled.

Despite the changes his nose underwent as he grew older, Zicasloma felt he looked more like his father, in contrast to his siblings who inherited their mother’s more pointed nose. He made it clear that his rhinoplasty was for aesthetic reasons, clarifying that some people also undergo the procedure for functional reasons, such as addressing breathing issues.

Battling Stigma Around Cosmetic Surgery

The comedian also spoke about the stigma surrounding cosmetic surgery in Nigeria, pointing out that many people are quick to judge others for altering their appearance. He also highlighted the contradiction in societal standards, drawing attention to how people often criticize cosmetic procedures while using makeup or braces to alter their appearance.

“People call it an inferiority complex, but we all have insecurities. Some people wear caps because they lack a hairline, while others avoid certain clothes because of a big stomach or bow legs,” Zicasloma said. “We all have things we want to change if we had the opportunity. People who criticize you for correcting your insecurities often don’t have the means or courage to do so themselves.”

He also acknowledged the misconception that rhinoplasty is dangerous, reassuring his followers that the procedure is not as risky as some have made it out to be. “People think it’s cancerous, but it’s not. The final results take about one to two years to fully show. Right now, my nose is still swollen, but in time, the swelling will go down,” he said, adding that in the future, some may not even notice he had the surgery.

Collaboration with the Hospital for Rhinoplasty

Zicasloma further shared that he didn’t pay for the rhinoplasty procedure, describing it as a collaboration with the hospital. “I didn’t pay for the surgery, but I did my visa and flight to Turkey. It was a collaboration between me and the hospital, and they also performed a minor eye lift,” he explained.

The comedian revealed that he was drawn to the hospital after seeing them perform rhinoplasty on a Black person on his Instagram feed. After reaching out, the hospital offered a partnership due to his large social media following. He stressed that he researched the hospital and doctor thoroughly before agreeing to the collaboration, as he considered the surgery to be life-changing.

Costs and Procedure Details

Zicasloma outlined the typical costs involved in rhinoplasty. He mentioned that a consultation usually ranges from $300 to $400, while the rhinoplasty itself costs between $5,000 and $6,000. Additional procedures like eye rejuvenation and a temporary facelift would cost around $2,500 each. He also explained that his consultation took place via video call, where his doctor reassured him about the safety of the surgery, detailing the risks of infection and bleeding, which are very rare.

“I wanted a nose that still looked African, not too pointy. My doctor assured me he would perform an ethnic rhinoplasty,” Zicasloma said.

Surgical Experience and Recovery Process

Recalling his surgical experience, Zicasloma explained that the procedure lasted over four hours under general anaesthesia. He recalled the process feeling surreal, with no pain, only discomfort after waking up and seeing bandages on his face. “The worst part was when they removed the cast and stitches during recovery, but it wasn’t too painful,” he said.

He also talked about his recovery, noting that the only real pain came from the process of removing the nasal packing and stitches. Despite the harsh comments he received from followers, Zicasloma remained unfazed, finding humour in the situation rather than anger.

Dealing with Critics

Zicasloma addressed critics who commented on his appearance after the surgery. He firmly stated that he was satisfied with his new look, explaining that his decision was purely personal. “I didn’t like my side profile in videos because of my nose, and now that it’s changed, I’m happy with it,” he said, adding, “I can’t get addicted to surgery. I’ve only changed what I wanted to change.”

He also responded to concerns about how his children might look, saying, “What if they like their nose? They may not even have the same nose as me. I might not even have biological children. Let them come with the old nose if they’re fine with it.”

Final Words of Advice

In concluding his video, Zicasloma offered advice to those considering cosmetic surgery. “Do what makes you happy,” he encouraged. “We all have things we can be judged for. Somebody criticized me for doing a nose job while they wore nose rings and earrings. Do what makes you feel good. I love my results so far.”

Zicasloma’s openness about his insecurities and the steps he took to address them serve as a reminder that self-love and personal happiness should always come first.
