OSP Issues Wanted Notice for Ken Ofori-Atta Over Corruption Allegations, Seeks His Return to Ghana

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a wanted notice for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as part of its ongoing investigation into multiple corruption allegations. The notice, released on February 17, 2025, includes Ofori-Atta’s name, photograph, and personal details, highlighting that he is wanted for questioning in relation to several cases, including the Strategic Mobilisation-GRA contract, the termination of the ECG-BXC contract, National Cathedral payments, and the Ambulance Procurement contract. The OSP also mentioned the United States and the United Kingdom as potential locations where Ofori-Atta may be residing. This move comes days after the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive and called for his immediate return to Ghana.

Despite Ofori-Atta’s lawyers indicating that he is currently receiving medical treatment abroad, the OSP has maintained its position, warning that failure to comply with the demand for his return will lead to further legal actions to secure his return. The Special Prosecutor has urged Ofori-Atta to return and face questioning regarding the allegations. However, the OSP’s actions have sparked controversy, particularly after Agyebeng described a raid on Ofori-Atta’s home in Cantonments as staged, which has led to widespread criticism of the investigation. Critics argue that the OSP's approach seems excessive and could be viewed as an overreach of its legal powers.

The OSP’s efforts to locate and prosecute Ofori-Atta have drawn significant attention and debate. The wanted notice, alongside the call for Ofori-Atta’s return, has fueled public discussions about the investigation’s legitimacy and the Special Prosecutor’s approach to tackling high-profile corruption cases. As the situation unfolds, many are watching closely to see how the OSP will proceed and whether Ofori-Atta will comply with the demand to return to Ghana for questioning.
