Singer Foelyjoe has shared that his upcoming track, "Bodija," is designed to inspire people to remain resilient in the face of challenges.
Speaking with Saturday Beats, he explained, "I believe this song will motivate people to stay strong, no matter the obstacles they encounter. It’s deeply influenced by the rich Yoruba cultural heritage, combining traditional Fuji sounds with a contemporary twist.
I hope that 'Bodija' will not only entertain but also encourage listeners to chase their dreams fearlessly and persevere. The song serves as a reminder that courage in the face of adversity is key to true success."
When asked about how the song fits within Fuji music's tradition of social commentary and cultural preservation, Foelyjoe responded, "Fuji music, which evolved from the Yoruba Islamic style of was, has always been a platform for social commentary and preserving culture in Nigeria.
My new release continues this tradition by incorporating the rhythmic drum patterns and call-and-response vocals typical of Fuji music. It also honours the iconic Bodija area in Ibadan, known for its historical significance in Yoruba culture and the Fuji scene. Bodija has long been a hub for artistic expression and cultural exchange, influencing countless Fuji artists.
By weaving its essence into my music, I aim to celebrate Fuji’s enduring legacy, blending timeless sounds with modern themes that resonate with today’s audience while preserving the authenticity of Yoruba heritage."
