Mdundo, one of Africa's leading music distribution platforms, is reshaping the digital music landscape by empowering artists to distribute, promote, and monetize their music.
In a statement to Saturday Beats, Mdundo revealed that its royalty payout season, launched in January 2025, continues to benefit rights holders across the continent.
Since its inception, Mdundo has paid royalties to over 200,000 artists, and the number of beneficiaries has grown with each payout cycle. This milestone reflects Mdundo's dedication to creating a sustainable music ecosystem for African musicians.
Mdundo's CEO, Martin Nielsen, shared, "Over 200,000 artists have earned royalties, and we’ve seen a steady increase in beneficiaries with each payout. Our goal has always been to provide African artists with a sustainable platform to succeed. By ensuring consistent and significant earnings, we are contributing to the growth of individual artists and the broader African music industry."
He also noted that by integrating music access into telecom services, Mdundo has enabled millions of users to enjoy music effortlessly, broadening the audience for artists and increasing royalty payouts.
The platform’s expansive catalogue is further strengthened through partnerships with major labels, including Africori, Mavin, Universal Music Group, Warner Music, and regional leaders like Slide Digital and Content Connect Africa.
Meanwhile: Trace, the Afro-urban music and culture platform, has revealed that the second edition of its awards ceremony will occur in Zanzibar, Tanzania. The event is scheduled for February 24 to 26, 2025, and will be hosted at the luxurious Mora 5-star Resort.
The announcement was made during a media briefing earlier this week in Lagos. The three-day event will kick off with a two-day summit featuring insightful panel discussions and masterclasses on African creative industries, technology, and branding topics.
The grand awards night, which will take place on February 26, will be broadcast live across 25 Trace channels and streamed in over 200 countries, including English, French, and Portuguese-speaking regions. Read the rest of the story here.......
