Popular actress Funke Akindele recently shared insights into her passionate approach to love, describing herself as a devoted "lover girl" who goes all in when it comes to relationships.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, Akindele revealed, “I am a lover girl, and I love deeply. Being a bit of an extremist, I always go the extra mile. I could wake up one day and buy my partner a car. For me, the ideal partner is someone who pampers me and genuinely checks on me. I love a real, positive guy and I’m drawn to intelligent men.”
Reflecting on her personal experiences, Akindele confessed there was a time she almost gave up on love. Offering advice to those who might feel the same, she said, “I used to feel that way. But don’t give up on anything in life—always look at the brighter side. If you’ve lost hope in love, take a step back, relax, and don’t force it. Don’t go searching for it; love will find you when it’s time.”
Akindele also addressed critics who claim that Nollywood is losing its storytelling quality. “I will never agree with that,” she stated. “We are creatives, telling stories from different perspectives. What’s in my mind might not be in yours. There’s no such thing as a bad story—it’s all about how it’s executed. Remember, my ability to tell my own story is my economic power. I’m not tired of Nollywood; just tell your stories well.”
When asked about the key to her success in Nollywood, Akindele emphasized the importance of consistency, understanding her audience, and hard work. “It’s all about consistency, studying your audience, and telling relatable stories. To achieve outstanding success, you need to put in the hard work—not just the smart work.”
