Social media—it’s a mix of reality and, well, "reelity." Everyone has something to say about what you post, but how does Rebeca Andrade, the 25-year-old, 4-time Olympic medalist, handle the constant negativity, rumours, and occasional keyboard warrior? She stays chill, saying, “I’m a very laid-back person. I love staying at home, binge-watching TV shows and movies, hanging out with my dogs, and having my family around.” Sounds like the perfect introvert’s dream life, right?

But despite her love for cosy vibes, Rebeca isn’t a stranger to social media. With 11.1 million followers on Instagram and 3.2 million on TikTok, she’s quite the presence. So, what’s her secret? How does she manage to keep things so private yet share her life online? While she doesn’t spill personal tea, she does give her followers a peek into her sports journey and shows her fun side—but, as she recently shared in a YouTube interview, no dramatic Netflix-worthy moments.

In a BBC World Service interview, Rebeca revealed how she’s immune to beauty standards. She values comfort over trends, saying that she feels at ease in what she wears and how she does her makeup. While she used to be self-conscious about her looks, she now embraces both her beauty and flaws, proudly rocking the bold, glittery leotards she wears. She loves feeling beautiful, no matter what’s “in” at the moment.

When asked about her social media habits, like posting TikTok dances and memes to her friends, the host inquired, “What’s the best and worst thing about being online?” Rebeca replied, “The positive part is that you’re very connected with your fans, with your audience." She enjoys interacting with her followers, adding, “I like to dance, sing, talk to them, and post my stuff.” While she keeps her personal life private, she enjoys sharing her sports journey and moments of fun—singing, playing, and dancing.

However, like anything, there’s a downside. “The complicated part is that everyone has an opinion about your life. Everyone wants to give their opinion,” she says. Despite that, she stays grounded: “Nobody lives with you 24 hours a day,” she reminds us, but the opinions keep coming. As for negative feedback? She shrugs it off with an “Anyway,” showing she’s focused on what truly matters.

Remember when Andrade got caught up in an online feud out of nowhere last year?

The Instagram Unfollow Drama Between Rebeca Andrade and Daiane dos Santos

Last year, a simple Instagram unfollow triggered a wave of rumours about Rebecca and Daiane dos Santos. Fans noticed that Daiane, Rebeca's childhood idol, had unfollowed her, sparking wild speculation. Some thought there was a deeper issue, while others assumed it was a glitch.

As the drama escalated, the media exaggerated the situation, causing a stir. Rebeca wasn’t about to let rumours fester. She quickly reached out to Daiane, who cleared the air, explaining the unfollow was a mistake likely caused by an Instagram glitch. She reassured everyone that there was no bad blood between them. To shut down the gossip, Rebeca followed Daiane back, signalling there was no feud. She even posted leotard pictures, refocusing attention on her gymnastics journey.

The two gymnasts share a mutual admiration for each other. Rebeca has cited Daiane as a major inspiration during her childhood. What started as a simple misunderstanding was quickly squashed through clear communication, showing how easily social media drama can spiral—only to be defused with honesty and transparency. It’s a reminder of how chaotic the world of social media has become.

Meanwhile: Popular singer, David Adeleke, aka Davido, came under fire after he publicly accused the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mohammed Abba, of failing to uphold the rule of law as preparations for the local government elections in the state were ongoing.

The singer took to his X account on Monday, February 17, 2025, to express his dissatisfaction with the current situation.

In one of the posts, he wrote, “Mr Commissioner respect the rule of law!!! You are not madder or crazier than us!! Make we all kuku mad!! MEN MOUNT WALAI TO KRF!!! I will post u everyday everywhere Mr man!!! Try me f***er.”

In another post, he noted “Mr Umar Abba Osun State Commissioner, you are a disgrace to your children!!!!! Game on F***ER!!!! All of us go mad together!! Werey!!!”

However, shortly after his rants went viral, Davido returned to social media to retract his words. In a statement titled ‘My Take on Osun CP, NPF and Forthcoming LG Elections’, he acknowledged the efforts of the CP and other security agencies. Read more here.....
