The unprecedented rate of streaming of frightening and mind-boggling videos on TikTok drive the publication of this post. Some of these videos are listed in the category of ''science fiction and fantasies''. Many are branded ''for entertainment or fashion'' while lots are titled FBI unpublished or Secret Service unlisted videos and more. It is to be observed that these TikTok channels have large numbers of followers, which encourages the breeding of more scary lookalikes.
While one may argue that most of
these videos are ''AI engineered motion photos'' and therefore mere science
fiction. You are welcome to say that it's only art, or it's
creativity in action! Let's pause for a moment and reflect on some new inventions, and the journey towards their discovery.
Yes, a causal time travelling of our minds down the history lanes of most scientific inventions may aid a clearer vision of what is coming! Science fictions of the past have become our today reality! President Donald Trump assures the American citizens that cars will soon fly. Scientists speculate that animals may soon communicate with humans effortlessly! Billionaire Elon Musk may soon hoodwink a million young people to flee to planet Mars and the distant stars from 2030 to become martyrs or heroes of colonization!
Are these mostly western videos
really poised to entertain or to subtly take advantage of our youth?
Young people in their adolescence, according to much research from prominent
health centers, may be victims of:
Periods of peak risk-taking
behavior; Times of identity and self-worth crises; Times when social pressure,
peer opinions and comparisons easily influence decisions.
More so, times of peak emotional learning behav-ioral patterns.
The Pew Research Center conveys
the information that in 2024, six of every American teen visit TikTok and of these, 16% stay on the platform constantly. While
research from various sources including the National Centre for British Information
and the Mayo Clinic highlight the impact of social media on
youths, red-marking the levels of susceptibility!
Adolescents of between 10 and 19, with developing brains, are most
vulnerable!
Although in Africa,
cultures and religions strive to moderate extreme behavior patterns in
our societies. The continuous creation and sharing of these videos
may overwhelm these restrictions, and tragic and dramatic events may materialize.
Examples may include youths being persuaded to connect their
brains to the Google internet. TikTok AI-Alien videos describe them ‘’the future smartest
people on earth’’. Another example may be
marrying and having babies with robots. TikTok's AI-Alien videos presenting this idea to the world as ''so cool''. It
is even worse when the world is being persuaded to flee our dying planet earth, for planet Mars and the distant stars! TikTok AI-Alien
Videos call these probably uninhabited death traps ''the future home of
earth children''
Parents and teachers' supervision and discipline may not be enough! Stronger Laws, policies and censorship may be needed! This is, therefore, a call to TIKTOK App administrators, the many associated stakeholders and institutions. May the right thing be done!
