Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu, popularly known as Mathe wa Ngara, is facing yet another major financial blow after the government moved to seize her high-end vehicles and multiple properties linked to alleged drug trafficking.

This comes months after the High Court ordered her to forfeit Ksh 13.4 million, which was discovered stashed in sacks at her home. Justice Esther Maina ruled that the money was proceeds of crime, as Kigunzu failed to provide a legitimate explanation for its source or why she stored such a large sum outside the banking system.

Now, the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) is seeking to confiscate three luxury cars, an apartment in Juja, and nine prime plots in Kiambu and Vihiga counties. The agency claims that these assets were purchased using illicit drug trade profits and were deliberately registered under associates’ names to conceal their true ownership.

Among the properties flagged for forfeiture are parcels of land in Juja-Kalimoni, registered under George Jumba Inguti and Scolastica Wambui Kibathi, along with an apartment known as Georgina in Juja. Several plots in Chavakali, Vihiga County, are also under scrutiny.

ARA alleges that Kigunzu laundered drug proceeds by investing in real estate and vehicles, a pattern seen through her frequent transfer of assets to third parties. The agency had already secured court orders in November barring any sale or transfer of the disputed properties while investigations continued.

Kigunzu was arrested in 2023 and charged with drug trafficking after police raided her Juja apartment and discovered illegal substances in a room labeled the control room. Authorities believe her wealth was built through organized narcotics operations.

If the court grants ARA’s latest request, Kigunzu will permanently lose her properties, marking another significant loss in the government's ongoing crackdown on suspected drug cartels.

If the court rules in favor of ARA, Kigunzu will face irreversible financial consequences, reinforcing the government's aggressive stance against suspected drug cartels and signaling a continued commitment to seizing assets linked to illicit activities.
