HOW TO GET YOUR MESSAGE HEARD

If you want people to “hear you,” then consider these key facts:

people don’t care how much you know, until they first know how much you care

a person’s favorite subject is themselves

if you can see John Jones through John Jones’s eyes, you can sell John Jones what John Jones buys

When you communicate to others, you must be thinking about the other person’s needs, wants, and desires. What is in it for THEM. Use their name. Talk about THEM. A person will listen for hours if you are talking about them. They will love you if you talk about THEM. Always put yourself in their shoes and see things from their perspective. These are the keys to being heard, to getting your message understood and of being an effective communicator.


Use the person’s name in communication. Their name is the sweetest sound to their ears and it commands their attention every time you use it.

A secret to being heard is to use the word “I” as little as possible. If you record conversations, the word “I” or “me”, or “my” is used hundreds of times. People talk about themselves and not the other person. When most people communicate, they think the world revolves around them. They think that everyone is interested in them and their lives and what they think. Not true.

We all think WE are the most important person in the room and the one everyone is thinking about or looking at. Not true. Come to this realization and you will be on your way toward enlightenment! LOL

Lastly, when you communicate with others, open your heart and realize that they have a right to be happy and that they have a right to be heard as well. If you want to be heard, then HEAR THEM. LISTEN. God gave you 2 ears and one mouth. Use them proportionally.

If you want to be interesting to others, then be INTERESTED IN others. LISTEN to them. When you do this FIRST, then when you speak, you are more likely to be “heard” by them.


Remember, the “Sales 101” axioms are:

-SELL YOURSELF FIRST.

-People don’t care how much you know, until they first know how much you care.

-If you want people to like you, show genuine concern in interest in them

-If you want people to be interested in you, be interested in THEM first.

-A person’s name is the sweetest sound in the language to each person and commands attention every time it is used. Remember, and USE people’s name.

-A person’s favorite subject is themselves and they will talk for HOURS about THEMSELVES if you ask them questions about THEM and LISTEN! THEN they will LOVE YOU, and BUY whatever you are “selling”, (including your ideas).

-There is a sign on every person’s forehead. It reads “Make me feel important”.

-You have 2 ears and one mouth, use them proportionately (listen more than you talk).

-There are 6 honest serving men, and you should use them till you die. They are: what, when, where, who, how and why.

Remember, you can get everything in life you want if you just help enough other people get what they want.
