Jurrien Timber Confident Arsenal Can Revive Season Against PSV
Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber believes the Gunners can "change the narrative" of their season with a strong performance against PSV Eindhoven in their Champions League last-16 tie. Despite struggling with injuries and a goal drought in recent matches, Timber remains optimistic that Arsenal can rediscover their form.
Mikel Arteta’s side has suffered key setbacks, with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus ruled out for the season, while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are sidelined with hamstring injuries. These absences have contributed to Arsenal’s dip in form, as they have failed to score in their last two matches and are now 13 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.
However, Timber pointed out that Arsenal were among the standout teams in the Champions League group stage, finishing third with 19 points and conceding only three goals. Ahead of the first-leg clash at PSV’s Philips Stadium, the Dutch defender said, “I think the motivation is there, and we showed in the group stages that we have a really good team. Tomorrow is a beautiful game to change the narrative and win.”
Timber, who has played 36 times this season after missing most of the last campaign with an ACL injury, believes Arsenal doesn’t need to overcomplicate things to regain momentum. He acknowledged the challenge posed by injuries but emphasized the squad’s quality and the need for attackers to step up.
“We have to score tomorrow, we have to win. In the Champions League, you only have two games, so you don’t get second chances,” he added.
Despite recent criticisms of Arsenal’s performances, Timber sees this moment as a test of character. “It’s a challenge for us, and we just have to take it. Tomorrow is a beautiful game to show that – and we will definitely show that.”
With Arsenal desperate to return to winning ways, the upcoming clash against PSV will be a defining moment in their season.
