Fans have reacted furiously to the news that there will be a Super Bowl-style half-time show during next year's World Cup final. FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed the decision on Wednesday morning, with Coldplay set to choose the performers.

A half-time show has been a major part of the Super Bowl for years, with the headline act given approximately 13 minutes to perform their biggest hits. US rapper Kendrick Lamar stole the show at last month's event, using his platform to revive his long-running feud with fellow musician Drake.
Now, football is set to try out its own half-time show on the biggest stage, but many fans are far from convinced it's a good idea. "The game's officially gone," claimed one supporter on X, protesting the announcement. "Utter woke nonsense," another fumed.

Concerns have also been raised that the half-time show's length could interrupt the match's flow and detract from the overall spectacle. "If it lasts longer than 15 minutes, it's a disgrace," one disgruntled fan posted. Some fans have expressed fears about what could happen next, with one raising the prospect of Premier League matches being played in the US to further appease the American audience. "The game we once loved is being ruined.
Next, we'll play Premier League games in the US on a permanent basis," they wrote. Another fan added, "Football really is in the gutter these days; it's been destroyed in every single way." Musical acts have performed at major football matches, such as the Champions League final, before, but they have taken the stage before games. Rock icon Lenny Kravitz performed before last year's final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

The time slot is set to switch to half-time at this year's final, with American rockers Linkin Park due to perform in Munich on May 31. The same idea will then be tested at the 2026 World Cup, but it has not gone down well with the majority of fans.
