Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim believes that winning the UEFA Europa League could be a turning point for the club, despite insisting that it is "not crucial" for their future.
As United prepare to face Real Sociedad in the first leg of their last-16 tie at the Reale Arena, Amorim acknowledged the pressure of the competition, especially given their struggles in the Premier League, where they currently sit 14th.
> “It’s a massive difference in our season, especially because we are out of the cups and in a bad position in the league. That could change a lot of things, even the way they see the coach,” Amorim said.
However, the Portuguese coach emphasized that Manchester United’s appeal to top players is not solely dependent on Champions League qualification.
Injury Woes for United
United will be without key players Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte, who both missed training and did not travel to Spain. Maguire was subbed off in the FA Cup loss to Fulham, while Ugarte suffered a minor injury in the same match.
Other absentees include Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, and Lisandro Martinez. Teenage striker Chido Obi, 17, is ineligible for the Europa League squad. However, left-back Patrick Dorgu, who is serving a domestic suspension, is available, while midfielder Toby Collyer has returned to training and traveled with the squad.
Crucial Clash Against Real Sociedad
Manchester United will face a tough challenge against La Liga side Real Sociedad, with the first leg kicking off at 17:45 GMT. A strong result could provide a much-needed boost for Amorim’s side as they seek to salvage their season.
