Sudan FA President Denies Unpaid Wages Claims for Kwasi Appiah
The President of the Sudan Football Association (SFA), Dr. Mutasim Jaafar, has dismissed reports suggesting that the national team head coach, Kwasi Appiah, has gone months without receiving his salary.
Recent speculation claimed that Appiah, the former Ghana Black Stars coach, had not been paid despite his successful run with Sudan's national team. However, Jaafar clarified that while there were banking transfer delays, the association remains committed to fulfilling its financial obligations.
“These claims [that we owe him] are not true,” Jaafar stated. “Kwasi is committed to his contract with the Sudanese Football Association and will arrive [in camp] on the agreed-upon dates. He has not yet received his financial dues due to banking transfer complications to Ghana, but we are working on resolving the issue in the coming hours. We need Kwasi with us to lead the national team.”
Currently in Ghana, Appiah has spent several weeks managing his role as a member of Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee. However, his return to Sudan is crucial, as the national team is preparing for upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Senegal and South Sudan.
Under Appiah’s leadership, Sudan has excelled in Group B of the qualifiers, securing 10 points from four matches. His coaching efforts also led the team to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. As he aims to guide Sudan to a historic World Cup qualification, the SFA remains hopeful that the financial issue will be resolved promptly to ensure his full focus on the team’search success.
