How to Check Your SASSA Balance Without Airtime

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) provides financial support through grants such as the Child Support Grant, Disability Grant, and Old Age Grant. For many beneficiaries, checking their balance without airtime can be a challenge. Fortunately, SASSA offers several free methods to check balances without requiring airtime.

Ways to Check Your SASSA Balance Without Airtime

1. USSD Codes (No Airtime Required)

SASSA provides free USSD codes to check your balance on any phone:

  • Dial 12069277# or another SASSA USSD code.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Enter your SASSA card number.
  • Your balance will be displayed instantly.

2. SASSA WhatsApp Line

You can check your balance via WhatsApp using only data:

  • Save SASSA’s WhatsApp number: 082 046 8553.
  • Open WhatsApp and send a message with “Check Balance.”
  • Follow the prompts to receive your balance.

3. ATM Balance Check

You can use any ATM to check your SASSA balance:

  • Insert your SASSA card at the ATM.
  • Enter your PIN.
  • Select “Check Balance” to view your funds on-screen or on a slip.

4. Postbank Services

Postbank offers another way to check your SASSA balance:

  • Visit your nearest Postbank branch.
  • Ask a teller for your balance.
  • Alternatively, check your balance via Postbank’s online services.

5. SASSA Online Services

If you have internet access, you can check your balance on the SASSA website:

69-Year-Old Arrested for Defrauding SASSA

A 69-year-old woman, Devi Sarathamoney, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for fraudulently receiving an old-age grant while being a business owner. The Pretoria North Regional Court found her guilty of theft, perjury, and fraud.

SASSA’s Acting CEO, Themba Matlou, warned that fraudsters would eventually be caught, as the agency conducts regular interviews to verify grant eligibility.
