Virgil van Dijk spotted in contact with PSG chiefs following Liverpool's Champions League defeat.
Liverpool were eliminated from the Champions League after losing on penalties to Paris Saint-Germain, who had levelled the round-of-16 second leg by winning in normal time at Anfield.
Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk was photographed speaking with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting director Luis Campos following what could be his final Champions League game with the club.
Van Dijk, 33, has yet to sign an extension for his current contract with the Reds, which expires in June. The Dutch defender is in the same boat as teammates Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who have yet to commit to their futures after this season.
All three players began Tuesday's Champions League round-of-16 second leg, which Liverpool lost 1-0 after winning by the same scoreline in Paris the previous week. That meant the game went to extra time and penalties, which PSG won 4-1.
Gianluigi Donnarumma saved penalties from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones to advance Luis Enrique's team to the quarterfinals, where they will face Club Brugge or Aston Villa. Less than an hour after the shootout, French outlet Foot Mercato saw Van Dijk in the Anfield tunnel talking with club president Al-Khelaifi and transfer chief Campos.
That has fueled talk that Van Dijk may join PSG this summer. The Netherlands international, who is free to engage with other clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement, has also been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Barcelona.
When asked about the futures of Van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander-Arnold after the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot declined to comment. "It is creative to come up with the contract situation," Slot told me. "That is the last thing I am thinking about." Liverpool proved themselves, and perhaps they will have more luck next year."
