Mohamed Salah is in tears as PSG ends Liverpool's Champions League dream on penalties.
An emotional Mohamed Salah was pictured in tears as Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League on penalties by Paris Saint-Germain in what could be his last European match for the Reds

Mohamed Salah burst into tears after Liverpool's Champions League exit on penalties.

Liverpool tied 1-1 on aggregate with Paris Saint-Germain after Harvey Elliott's winner in the first leg and Ousmane Dembele's goal at Anfield, but Luis Enrique's team advanced to the quarter-finals after a dramatic shootout.

Gianluigi Donnarumma saved Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones' spot kicks, while Vitinha, Goncalo Ramos, Dembele, and Desire Doue scored PSG's four penalties. And Salah struggled to control his emotions when Liverpool was eliminated, with the forward pictured in tears.

The encounter could be Salah's final European game for Liverpool, as he is out of contract in the summer and it is unclear whether he will sign an extension. Reds skipper Virgil van Dijk is in the same predicament as Salah, and he was also really disappointed by the outcome.

"It was a very intense great game of football, and I believe I was a part of it as well," Van Dijk told Amazon Prime. "It was all there for Liverpool and what we showed in Paris, but we were out on penalties, which is the truth.

"I believe we produced dangerous moments in the first half, and they have the quality as well, so penalties will decide the outcome. It's part of football, I told the lads. You can be disappointed because we're out of the competition, but keep your chin up and prepare for the next challenge, which will be a magnificent one this weekend.

"I believe we were quite excellent today as well, and you want to go as far as possible, but we knew when we drew PSG it would be difficult. We saw in Paris when we struggled but won, and today we saw a very good Liverpool team, but we are out of the competition.
