Facebook Expands Monetization to Public Stories for Creators

Facebook is introducing a new way for creators to earn money through views on their public stories. This monetization feature is now available worldwide to creators enrolled in the Facebook Content Monetization program.

Facebook is rolling out the ability for creators to earn money for views on public stories. The new monetization option is available globally to creators who are part of the Facebook Content Monetization program.

With this new monetization option, creators can earn money from content that they are already producing and sharing if they post it to their Facebook story. For example, if a creator makes a recipe video or reel, they can share a snippet of it to their story. They can also earn money by posting story content about their everyday lives like they normally would.

With this update, creators can generate revenue from content they’re already producing simply by sharing it on their Facebook stories. For instance, a creator who makes a recipe video or reel can post a snippet to their story and earn money from its engagement. Additionally, everyday content—such as personal updates—can now become a source of income.

A Facebook spokesperson told *TechCrunch* via email that payouts for stories will be based on content performance. Unlike some other monetization features, creators don’t need to meet a specific view threshold before they start earning.

By extending monetization to stories, Facebook is giving creators another revenue stream, encouraging more content production on the platform. This move aligns with Meta’s broader strategy of attracting TikTok creators to Facebook and Instagram with financial incentives, content deals, and support to grow their communities.

Creators who are already part of the Facebook Content Monetization program and have enabled monetization don’t need to take any additional steps to activate this feature.

Facebook launched the Content Monetization program last year, consolidating its In-Stream Ads, Ads on Reels, and Performance Bonus programs into a single offering. After testing stories monetization with select beta users, the platform is now rolling it out to all eligible creators.

Millions of creators were invited to join the program in 2024, and Facebook plans to open enrollment to more users later this year. In the meantime, those who aren’t yet part of the program can express interest through the program’s website.
