Hearts of Oak Fall to Dreams FC in Narrow Defeat

Hearts of Oak suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Dreams FC in their Matchday 24 clash of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The only goal of the game came in the first half from Abdul Razak Salifu, sealing a historic victory for Dreams FC, their first against Hearts since 2021. Despite Hearts of Oak's dominance in possession, they struggled to break down the well-organized defense of Dreams FC. The Phobians registered four shots on target in the first half but were denied by an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Gidios Aseako. The lack of clinical finishing cost Hearts a crucial opportunity to close the gap on the league leaders.

After halftime, Hearts of Oak intensified their attacking efforts, firing 12 goal attempts in their bid to equalize. However, poor finishing continued to hinder their chances, with multiple shots either going off target or being saved by Aseako. On the other hand, Dreams FC, despite not registering a single shot in the second half, maintained their defensive structure and relied on a disciplined display to hold onto their lead. Aseako was the standout performer of the match, making five crucial saves that ultimately secured the win for his team. This result marked just the second away victory for Dreams FC in their last 17 attempts, lifting them to 12th place in the league standings with 24 points, six clear of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak remain two points behind arch-rivals and league leaders Asante Kotoko, who managed a 1-1 draw against Samartex. The loss was Hearts’ fifth in the league this season and their sixth across all competitions, raising concerns over their title challenge. Looking ahead, Hearts of Oak will seek redemption in their next fixture as they travel to Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park for their Matchday 25 encounter. Dreams FC, buoyed by their latest victory, will aim to continue their positive momentum when they face Heart of Lions at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Wednesday.
