Those seven words were uttered by Roberta Bascomb, nicknamed "Bobbie" by her close friends. Those seven words were part of the same story that she told her longtime friend, Paula Dunlop. The story involved the marriage between her son, Nicholas Bascomb, and his wife of three years, Hannah Moon. Roberta said that she loved how happy her "little Nicky" was with Hannah, and she saw Hannah as her own daughter. Hannah wanted so badly to be a mother, but she couldn't, and in the end, Hannah tragically took her own life.
Each time Roberta told her sad story to Paula, each time she ended it with Hannah's suicide, Roberta stared into space. It took a familiar voice to wake her up from Roberta's gaze, but the voice was not that of her son Nicholas.
"OK, Roberta, time's up."
With those four words, reality set in. The person Roberta saw as Paula, was actually Dr. Dean Gilbert, a prison psychologist. The park setting that Roberta was seeing in her mind was actually a prison, and a guard was taking Roberta to her jail cell. The walk back to her cell saw the truth flood into Roberta's subconscious, as it always does and had for the last year. Roberta's disapproving looks at Hannah, the many times she bullied Hannah, the many times she told Nicholas to divorce Hannah, and how furious Roberta was every time Nicholas stood up for Hannah.
Also, while Hannah was looking forward to motherhood, Roberta had been forcing it on Hannah for her entire marriage, and hated it when Hannah and Nicholas told Roberta to be patient. With each day, Roberta hurled accusations of being barren towards Hannah, and on one instant, Roberta attempted to set up Nicholas with Staci Samms, an ex-girlfriend who cheated on Nicholas in the past, with Nicholas lashing out at his mother for such an action. Finally, Hannah became pregnant. Nicholas was happy. Even Roberta was happy... until she learned that her first grandchild was a granddaughter.
Then, the day in question. A sneaky and insane Roberta shoved Hannah over the stairwell, and after seeing that Hannah was deceased, she tried to set up Hannah as being suicidal. Roberta's story quickly fell apart, and she was taken to trial, where Roberta only admitted to trying to cause a miscarriage. Nicholas never made an appearance during his mother's trial; he was too angry at Roberta. The trial was a speedy one; only a week to convict Roberta and sentence her to life in prison.
It's been a year since Roberta was sentenced, and she's spent that year concocting her aforementioned fantasy during every session with the prison psychologist. However, once the session ends, the reality hits Roberta. She had a chance to have a true loving family, but as a result of her heinous and vicious actions, Roberta will spend the rest of her life alone behind bars, with only her delusions and fantasies to comfort her.
