The world was moving forward without a pause, everything changing with time. Each day took on new colors, and every night gave birth to a new memory. For Magnus, the world around him was just the same, beautiful yet equally empty for him. He was in the final phase of his school life, carrying the memories of past years as he stepped into a new school. He had to begin this last chapter all over again.
A week passed by. Everything seemed fine, and he had started adapting to this new school. But he still hadn’t made any friends. He continued to sit alone in a corner.
Every day, he noticed a girl sitting silently in the last corner of the class. No one seemed to pay any attention to her as if she and that corner didn’t even exist. Her eyes remained lost in an unknown void, fixed on an old clock before her. Magnus watched her daily, she never spoke to anyone and disappeared suddenly as soon as school ended.
One day, during lunchtime, Magnus didn't stop walking up to her. The girl looked at him, and in her eyes, he saw a strange glimmer of recognition.
"Hi... I’m Magnus. I just wanted to know why you’re always so quiet and alone? Are you fine?
"I’m waiting…"
"For whom?"
"For you."
As soon as Magnus looked into her eyes, his heartbeat racing fast. He had never met her before, yet her voice felt familiar.
The girl pointed at the clock, "When it reaches zero, I will disappear again… and you will forget me once more.
Before he could grasp the meaning of her words, blurry images flashed through his mind, an ancient world, galloping horses, war, blazing fires… and a promise.
"If there is a next life, I will find you again…"
The girl smiled sadly, You say that in every lifetime, yet I always fade from your memory. You fail every time. But I… I always wait for you somewhere in the world until my existence completely vanishes. I will wait for you.
A tear fell from her eye, and in that drop, Magnus saw only two faces—his and hers, And then she smiled. Memories from centuries past swirled before his eyes.
The girl smiled one last time, and as Magnus watched, the clock’s hands began to move backward. She started dissolving into a mist and then disappeared completely.
Magnus screamed… "Anastasia!"
The next morning, Magnus sat alone in the same corner. His eyes were fixed on the clock's hands. But they did not move backward. The faint flame of hope in his heart flickered… and then went out.
The world was still beautiful, but empty for him.
