Afenyo-Markin: "NDC Would Lose If Elections Were Held Today

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has boldly declared that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) would face defeat if elections were conducted today. He made this assertion while addressing Parliament on Tuesday, March 19, 2025.

Mahama’s Government Under Scrutiny According to Afenyo-Markin, many Ghanaians are already expressing disappointment with President John Dramani Mahama’s administration. He argued that in just a few months, the government has struggled to fulfill its promises, leaving citizens frustrated. The rising cost of living, he noted, has placed a heavy burden on households, making survival increasingly difficult for the average Ghanaian.

Economic Policies Under Fire The Minority Leader further criticized the economic direction of the Mahama-led government, insisting that rather than stabilizing the economy, its policies have worsened the situation. He accused the NDC of failing to cut excessive government expenditure despite appointing fewer ministers. In his view, Ghanaians had high hopes for better economic management, but those expectations have not been met.

Afenyo-Markin pointed out that many citizens are beginning to lose confidence in the NDC due to what he described as poor governance. He asserted that if an election were to be held today, the NDC would suffer a resounding loss because the government has failed to meet the expectations of the people.

NPP’s Confidence in 2028 Comeback As a leading figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Afenyo-Markin expressed strong confidence in his party’s ability to reclaim power in the next general election. He assured Ghanaians that the NPP is committed to addressing the challenges facing the country and would work tirelessly to restore economic stability and good governance.

Mixed Reactions from the Public His remarks have sparked diverse reactions among Ghanaians. While some agree with his assertions, believing that the Mahama-led administration has underperformed, others argue that it is too early to judge the government’s progress. They believe Mahama should be given more time to implement his policies before any conclusions are drawn.

What’s Your Opinion? ok you think Afenyo-Markin’s statement holds weight? Will the NDC truly lose if elections were held today, or is it too soon to make such claims? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
