Pochettino appreciates "the pressure from Donald Trump"

The United States coach believes his team can become world number one "in five or ten years."

Mauricio Pochettino , the United States coach , said that his national team could end up dominating football and that he knows that Donald Trump , the president of that country, will put pressure on him to ensure that the U.S. performs at the 2026 World Cup, which it is hosting with Mexico and Canada.

“I think we can dominate football in 10 or 15 years, or maybe less, 5, 6, or 7. In 5 or 10 years, we can be number 1 in the world. The potential is enormous,” Pochettino told English media. “Now Trump will put pressure on us ahead of the World Cup, and that's welcome,” the Argentine coach added.

Pochettino admitted on Tuesday in an interview with Sky Sports  that at some point he would like to return to coach Tottenham , which he managed between 2014 and 2019. The Argentine coach was unable to win any titles at the helm of Spurs but undoubtedly left a great memory among his fans for the football played by his team and the runners-up finishes achieved in the Premier League (2016-17, behind Chelsea ), English League Cup (2014-15, 2-0 against Chelsea ) and Champions League (2019, after losing the final against Liverpool 0-2).

Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham in November 2019 and subsequently managed PSG (2021-2022) and Chelsea (2023-2024). The Argentine coach was named US national team manager on September 10, 2024. He signed a contract until July 31, 2026, after the World Cup.
