Karen Carney, an expert on TNT Sports, says that Chelsea can win the quadruple this season, even though they already have one trophy in their locker. The Blues are vying for their first European championship, but they have already won the League Cup, are in the FA Cup's last four, and are eight points ahead of the Women's Super League leaders. Carney believes Sonia Bompastor's side have what it takes to win the lot.
Sonia Bompastor, who took over for Emma Hayes last summer, has had a remarkable start in the dugout. Additionally, Carney believes that the new manager has contributed to elevating a group of players who are already extremely successful. "Emma (Hayes, former manager) gave Sonia a brilliant squad," she told TNT Sports. "Sonia has come in and added even more to the group, in terms of Naomi Girma, Lucy Bronze, Keira Walsh.
She's added a winning mentality to an already successful team.
"And she's got that mentality. Although she is brutal, having a different perspective on the camp and the group can be refreshing at times. I played against her. As a player, she was brutal. "Her mentality and the way she tells players to go to bed and not celebrate after cup finals are clear. "There's no way they're not having conversations about that quadruple, with people like Millie Bright and Lucy Bronze in that dressing room.
"I think they've got every chance to go and do the quadruple, because they have got every element in that fantastic squad."
Alongside Bompastor's leadership off the field, Carney says there is one player in particular who has had a big influence since joining the club last summer.
"If you want to go and add a serial winner, you go and get Lucy Bronze," she continued. "She's probably, for me, the most competitive human I've ever come across, literally an ultimate winner.
When Sonia was asked about that quadruple, that's what I joked about. "That's one down, three more to go," Lucy will announce while she is there. "She'll be there to go and do it. She wants to break every record possible, and she's got every element.
"She's made that line better. She's brilliant, isn't she?"
