Ghanaian singer Gyakie has shed light on the inspiration behind her eagerly awaited debut album, After Midnight. The talented artist explained that the album’s title is a nod to her creative process, as most of the tracks were recorded during the serene hours that follow midnight.
According to Gyakie, the quietness of the night plays a pivotal role in enhancing her creativity. “The peace and quiet, the sounds from the birds, the serenity—everything from those hours helps my creativity a lot,” she stated. The stillness of the night, free from the noise and distractions of the day, allows her to fully immerse herself in her artistry and express herself authentically.
The singer further shared that her emotional experiences during those late-night hours have significantly influenced the album’s creation. She opened up about her vulnerable moments, explaining, “I’ve done a lot of crying after midnight too. When I’m in my down moments, I schedule the tears for when I get home from work then let it all out.” This candid revelation adds a deeply personal dimension to her work, reflecting the emotional intensity poured into her music.
Beyond her personal experiences, Gyakie also drew inspiration from her upbringing, particularly her mother’s unwavering dedication to late-night prayers. “Growing up, my mother would always pray for us after midnight when we were deeply asleep. It was a consistent routine, and she still does it whenever we’re together,” she revealed. This cherished memory of her mother’s prayers has left a lasting impact on her, contributing to the emotional depth of After Midnight.
Gyakie’s forthcoming album promises to offer fans a glimpse into her most personal and vulnerable moments, with songs shaped by both creative solitude and the emotional experiences that come with life’s highs and lows.
Though she's yet to announce the official release date fans have high hopes that the upcoming project will soon be available across all DSPs.
