The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, along with the CEO of COCOBOD, Dr. Ransford Abbey, has taken steps to address the delay in cocoa road projects across Ghana. In a recent meeting, they discussed plans to secure reliable funding for the completion of these crucial roads, which play a key role in cocoa-producing regions. As part of their strategy, a joint technical committee has been set up, consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Highways and COCOBOD. This committee has been tasked with reviewing the status of ongoing and stalled projects, assessing financial obligations, and developing a plan to ensure their completion. Within three weeks, they are expected to submit a detailed report with recommendations on resource distribution and project execution.

The committee’s main objective is to conduct a thorough assessment of the cocoa roads initiative, ensuring that available resources are utilized efficiently. By analyzing government commitments and financial limitations, the team will propose solutions to accelerate construction and prevent further delays. The government has emphasized the importance of these roads in boosting productivity, as improved infrastructure will facilitate the smooth transportation of cocoa produce. This initiative is expected to bring much-needed relief to cocoa farmers and traders who rely on these roads for their daily activities. Completing these projects will not only benefit the agricultural sector but also enhance economic growth in cocoa-growing communities.

Minister Agbodza reiterated the government’s dedication to upgrading road infrastructure, particularly in rural areas where transportation challenges have negatively impacted businesses. He stressed that fixing these roads is not just about construction but also about supporting the cocoa industry, which is vital to Ghana’s economy. As the committee works on its findings, stakeholders remain optimistic that their recommendations will lead to a comprehensive plan for overcoming financial hurdles and ensuring timely project completion. The government’s renewed focus on infrastructure development signals a commitment to improving connectivity in cocoa-producing regions and sustaining Ghana’s position as a leading cocoa exporter.
