Selena Gomez turned Benny Blanco into a Swiftie—one of the standout moments from their appearance on the popular Hot Ones YouTube show, which aired Thursday.

The couple is currently promoting their new collaborative album, I Said I Love You First, marking their first major project together. Blanco, a renowned music producer, and Gomez, a Grammy-nominated singer and actress, have joined forces on the album.
Hot Ones is known for bringing celebrities onto the show to chat while eating increasingly spicy chicken wings. Gomez had previously appeared in a Hot Ones segment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back in 2019.
This time, host Sean Evans asked the engaged couple about the overlap in their musical tastes, or their “Venn diagram.” Gomez explained that she plays “everything” for Blanco, “even if it annoys him,” but confessed that when she’s on her own, she tends to get “a little emo” with her music choices. Blanco, on the other hand, said they both share a love for artists like Patsy Cline and Ella Fitzgerald.
Then, Blanco shared a surprising confession about his growing appreciation for one of Gomez's close friends.
“Before we started dating, I knew about Taylor Swift’s music, but I wasn’t a true Swiftie,” Blanco admitted. “Now, I’m like, ‘Put that song on. How’s that one go again?’ We’ll be in the car, and I’m singing Taylor Swift songs from, like, 10 years ago… I feel free.”
Gomez, clearly pleased, responded with a smug smile, “They’re timeless, what can I say?”
The conversation also revealed that Gomez, 32, has picked up a few habits from her Only Murders in the Building costars, Steve Martin, 79, and Martin Short, 74. For example, she’s started eating the same thing for lunch every day at work and using “old soulish” expressions.
“Sometimes I’ll say, ‘Yes, no, and I remember whilst I was…’ It’s like, ‘What am I talking about?’” she laughed. “That’s Steve and Marty… they’re the best.”
By this point, the hot sauces were starting to hit, and Blanco let out a dramatic “Holy sh*t!” Evans added a fun twist by presenting the couple with questions to ask each other, but it didn’t go smoothly. Gomez stood up, exasperated, asking, “Why do people do this?”
Blanco didn’t have it much more manageable. “It’s like you lose motor skills,” he joked as he tried to ask a question. His hot sauce tip? “Don’t let the sauce touch your lips.”
Despite the fiery challenge, the couple made it through the “Wings of Death” gauntlet, and it even led to a sweet moment. When Evans asked if couples should tackle the spicy challenge together, Blanco admitted, “I feel like I would have crumbled without her.”
Gomez smiled and responded, “Honey, you did crumble.”
