Ghana Thrashes Chad 5-0 to Claim Top Spot in Group I

The Black Stars of Ghana delivered a stunning performance in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, securing a commanding 5-0 victory over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium. This impressive win comes after Ghana's disappointment of missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), proving their determination to bounce back stronger. Right from kickoff, the Black Stars established their dominance, with Antoine Semenyo opening the scoring just two minutes into the match, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from the Chadian side. Ghana continued to apply relentless pressure, creating multiple goal-scoring opportunities. Mohammed Kudus narrowly missed a well-struck free-kick after Jordan Ayew was fouled near the penalty area, while miscommunication in the final third prevented further goals. Despite Chad’s brief moments of resistance, Ghana remained in firm control of the game. Inaki Williams extended the lead in the 31st minute after expertly finishing a precise cross from Thomas Partey. Just a few minutes later, Semenyo won a penalty for Ghana, and Jordan Ayew confidently converted it to give the Black Stars a comfortable 3-0 advantage before halftime.

Ghana maintained their attacking momentum in the second half, leaving Chad with little room to respond. The fourth goal arrived in the 55th minute when Mohammed Salisu rose above the defense to head home a well-placed corner kick from Ernest Nuamah. The Chadian team, struggling to keep up, had a rare opportunity to score a consolation goal, but Ghana’s goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, reacted swiftly to deny them. The Black Stars sealed their dominant performance in the 78th minute when Ernest Nuamah added his name to the scoresheet, finishing off a brilliant assist from Jordan Ayew. With a five-goal lead secured, head coach Otto Addo made a series of substitutions, introducing fresh legs into the game. Abu Francis replaced Nuamah, Kamaldeen Sulemana came in for Semenyo, and additional changes saw Jerry Afriyie, Jerome Opoku, and Lawrence Agyakum get some minutes as they replaced Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey, and Mohammed Salisu, respectively.

The emphatic win propels Ghana to the top of Group I with 12 points, boosting their chances of securing a spot at the 2026 World Cup. The victory not only demonstrates the Black Stars' attacking prowess but also highlights their defensive solidity, as they managed to keep a clean sheet against Chad. With this momentum, Ghana will now shift their focus to their upcoming fixture against Madagascar in Morocco at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium. As the team prepares for the next challenge, their dominant display against Chad serves as a confidence booster, reinforcing their determination to secure qualification for the prestigious tournament.
