Asamoah Gyan Urges Black Stars to Secure Six Points in World Cup Qualifiers
Ghana’s football legend and all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan, has advised the Black Stars to prioritize winning their upcoming matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Ghana, currently positioned third in Group I with nine points from four matches, is set to face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium before traveling to Morocco to battle Madagascar at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium. Gyan, who played in the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups, emphasized that while fans enjoy entertaining football, securing three points in each match should be the ultimate goal. He noted that the team has been struggling, having won only two out of their last ten games, but stressed that these qualifiers present a crucial opportunity for a turnaround. Speaking to Asempa FM, he urged the team to stay focused on their mission and ignore distractions. He reminded them that success in these games is key to keeping Ghana’s World Cup dreams alive.
Gyan also encouraged the players to strengthen their connection with the fans, as their support plays a vital role in the team’s morale and performance. He acknowledged that Ghanaians have high expectations and want to see the Black Stars play beautiful football, but he maintained that victories should be the main focus. According to him, the players should prove their worth on the pitch and demonstrate their commitment to securing qualification. Given Ghana’s disappointing performance in 2024 and their recent failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in two decades, Gyan believes these World Cup qualifiers are a chance for redemption. He urged the players to play with passion, determination, and a winning mentality, as the entire nation is counting on them to restore pride in Ghanaian football.
With Ghana desperate to bounce back from their AFCON qualification setback, all eyes will be on the team as they take on Chad and Madagascar. Their performance in these two crucial matches will determine their chances of advancing to the next stage of the qualifiers. Head coach Otto Addo and his squad will need to strategize effectively to overcome their opponents and secure the maximum six points. Meanwhile, fans, football analysts, and former players continue to rally behind the team, hoping for a strong response after a disappointing 2024. If the Black Stars succeed in these matches, it could mark the beginning of a resurgence for Ghanaian football on the international stage.
