Former President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of the Northern Region that his administration will prioritize the completion of abandoned hospitals and water projects. During his visit to the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari II, at the Gbewaa Palace, Mahama emphasized the need for quality healthcare in the region. He specifically mentioned the Yendi and Tamale hospitals, which have been left unfinished, affecting access to medical care. He stressed that every resident deserves proper healthcare and vowed to complete these projects if given the mandate again. Additionally, he pledged to revive and complete stalled water projects, recognizing that access to clean drinking water is essential for the well-being and development of the region.
The Yendi Municipal Health Directorate has been struggling with staff shortages and inadequate infrastructure, making the completion of these hospitals a pressing issue. The Yendi Hospital, in particular, is in a dire state, with many of its structures in need of urgent renovation. Mahama’s promise to address these challenges has given hope to residents who have long awaited better healthcare services. Alongside hospital projects, he reaffirmed his broader commitment to finishing all abandoned developments in the Northern Region, including road networks and public infrastructure. His statements come amid growing concerns about unfinished government projects that have left many communities without essential services.
Beyond healthcare and water, Mahama also highlighted plans to support agriculture through irrigation projects. He announced that 10,000 hectares of land had been earmarked for irrigation to help farmers boost food production and improve food security. This initiative is expected to empower local farmers and enhance economic growth in the region. His promises have been met with optimism, as many residents look forward to seeing tangible progress. With a focus on infrastructure development, healthcare, and agriculture, Mahama’s assurances reflect his broader vision for the Northern Region, aiming to improve the quality of life for its people.
