Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has endorsed Benjamin Asare as Ghana’s number-one goalkeeper following his impressive performances for the Black Stars. The 32-year-old shot-stopper received his first call-up to the national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar. Making the most of his opportunity, Asare delivered commanding performances, keeping clean sheets in both matches. Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, speaking in an interview with *Graphic Sports*, praised Asare's displays and stated that the goalkeeper had proven himself worthy of the first-choice spot. He further highlighted how Asare’s emergence underscores the talent present in Ghana’s domestic league, emphasizing the need for local players to be given more opportunities at the international level.

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has also affirmed Asare's position as Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper, expressing confidence in his abilities. He noted that Asare’s performances in training were outstanding and that he had rightfully earned the top spot in the team’s pecking order. Addo acknowledged the healthy competition among the goalkeepers but maintained that Asare’s consistency and hard work had made him the preferred choice. With Ghana currently leading Group I with 15 points in the World Cup qualifiers, the Black Stars are now shifting their focus to their next set of matches in June, where they will face Chad away before hosting Mali. The team is determined to maintain its strong form and secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The decision to make Asare the first-choice goalkeeper has been met with widespread approval, with many seeing it as a step in the right direction for Ghanaian football. His success reinforces the argument that Ghana’s local league produces players capable of excelling at the highest level when given the right opportunities. Football analysts and former players have called for a broader scouting system within the Ghana Premier League to ensure more local talents are discovered and integrated into the national team. As the Black Stars continue their journey toward World Cup qualification, Asare’s performances will be crucial in maintaining their defensive solidity. The upcoming fixtures against Chad and Mali will serve as another opportunity for him to cement his place in the team and further prove that Ghana’s local talents can thrive on the international stage.
