BETWEEN THE MOMENTS

You never know how unexpected life can be. Within a moment, your life can change forever, turning your world upside down.

This world is full of surprises—you never know what's going to happen next. One moment you're alive, and the very next, you could be gone.

Sounds scary, right? Isn't it?

But that's the harsh reality. The reality everyone knows, but very few have the courage to accept.

It's often seen that we keep complaining about everything. No matter how much we achieve, we're never satisfied. We just want to keep climbing the ladders of success, forgetting how many precious things we've left behind. We forget that the urge to excel in life has made us insensitive and ignorant toward our family, friends, and everyone who values and loves us. We don't realize we're missing those little beautiful moments that can bring us more joy than all our materialistic achievements.

And when reality hits us hard and we fall, the only ones who come to our rescue are the ones we've been hurting and ignoring.

It happened with her too.

She was a young girl, full of life and enthusiasm. She had big dreams in her big brown eyes. She was blessed with everything—a perfect combination of beauty and brains and the only child of her doting parents. Life had been good to her. But all this pampering and attention had spoiled her. She became self-obsessed and self-centered. She had an attitude of "I, me, and myself." Nothing else mattered to her. She lived in a world where only *her* happiness mattered, only *her* dreams were important, and the worst part was that even her parents' love made her feel suffocated. She always used to complain about this.

"You know what? My parents are so overprotective. I just don’t want to stay with them anymore," she would say to her friends.

Their love was termed as suffocation.

(Sadly, most youngsters think this way.)

But sometimes, a small incident is enough to open your eyes, and that's exactly what happened—an incident that changed her forever.

**October 31st, 2024, 11:50p.m.**

She was busy watching some random show on TV when suddenly her stomach started aching. For a few minutes, she kept ignoring it, thinking it would pass, but the pain only increased. She couldn’t understand how such severe pain could come on so suddenly. Finally, when she couldn’t take it anymore, she called her parents. They rushed to her room, and seeing their daughter in so much pain, they quickly took her to the hospital.

In a moment, everything changed. The environment completely shifted. She was no longer in her cozy, fluffy bed but lying on a hospital bed, half-conscious. She could hear her parents calling her, but everything was starting to blur. She couldn’t respond. The pain was unbearable. She kept screaming and crying out of pain.

Soon, she felt needles being pierced into her delicate hands, and medicine was passing through her veins. It was painful, but the pain didn’t subside.

She felt like she might die. Everything flashed before her eyes. She realized how happy she had been just moments ago, how colorful and vibrant her world had been, and how lucky she was to have such loving parents. She looked at them, seeing their desperate expressions as they spoke to the doctors, almost pleading for their daughter’s pain to end.

Though she was in pain from the injections, she realized her parents were suffering even more. The fear in their faces—the fear of losing her—was overwhelming.

The medicine started to take effect, and slowly the pain began to fade. She was coming back to normal. The tests revealed it was food poisoning, but fortunately, that food poisoning made her realize everything she had always ignored. It made her realize that appreciating the little things in life gives immense pleasure.

A smile on your parents' face. A sound sleep in your cozy bed. Watching your favorite show. Eating your favorite dish. Talking with your best friend. Making those who love you feel special through small gestures—these are the things that can actually bring a genuine smile to your face.
