MoMo Vendor’s Murder: Suspect Confesses After Shrine Ritual

The town of Nkrankwanta in Ghana’s Bono Region was shaken when a Fulani herdsman, identified as Yusif, confessed to murdering mobile phone vendor Japhet Yeboah. The incident occurred on February 18, 2025, when Yeboah was shot and killed at his shop. His sudden death left the community in distress, with no immediate leads on the perpetrator. Frustrated by the lack of progress, local elders decided to seek the intervention of a traditional shrine. Rituals were performed, and libations were poured to invoke the deity’s power in exposing the culprit. Shortly afterward, Yusif voluntarily approached the community leaders and admitted to committing the crime.

According to Issifu Basoma, the Assembly Member for the Asuopiri Electoral Area, the suspect not only confessed but also led elders to a hidden location where a pistol, allegedly used in the murder, was discovered along with other sharp weapons. The Ghana Police Service in Nkrankwanta later confirmed that Yusif had been taken into custody and was assisting in ongoing investigations. The dramatic confession, prompted by spiritual intervention, has sparked discussions on the role of traditional beliefs in modern crime resolution. While law enforcement agencies rely on forensic evidence and formal investigations, some communities still turn to spiritual practices when conventional methods fail to yield results.

The case has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the intersection of traditional and modern justice systems. Many residents believe the shrine’s intervention played a key role in revealing the truth, reinforcing the belief in supernatural justice. Meanwhile, the police have assured the public that due process will be followed and that Yusif will face prosecution in a court of law. As investigations continue, the community remains in shock over the revelations, while the victim’s family hopes for justice. The incident has reignited debates about the effectiveness of traditional practices in crime resolution, showing that in some cases, spiritual beliefs still hold significant influence in Ghanaian society.
