A Ghanaian child, famous from one of the most popular social media memes depicting him crying and laughing almost simultaneously, has reportedly fallen ill and is now in need of financial assistance. In a video shared by GhanaCelebrities.Com, Ghanaian blogger Nana Baffour revealed the current struggles faced by the child, who is now older and suffering from an undisclosed health condition.
Baffour filmed the heartfelt plea from the very home where the world-renowned meme was first recorded. In the video, he is seen with the child and his grandmother, who narrate their ongoing hardships, emphasizing how difficult life has become, particularly since the young boy's illness. Despite the fame and joy he has brought to many through the meme, the family is grappling with significant challenges that have made their everyday life precarious.
The child, identified as Albert Ofosu Nketia, can be seen in the footage with noticeable marks on his body, although the specific nature of his ailment remains unknown. Baffour is appealing for help from kind-hearted individuals, both in Ghana and abroad. He pointed out that Albert's meme has provided joy to many people and has generated considerable revenue for content creators who utilize his image online.
Social media users have expressed shock at Albert's plight, with many pledging their support and assistance. Some have suggested that Baffour should involve English in his future recordings to ensure a wider audience, particularly Nigerians and other creators worldwide, can comprehend the situation and provide help. Others have requested more detailed information regarding the boy's illness, advocating for a more targeted approach to offering aid.
Following the video's viral success, Madam Rosina, Albert’s mother, recounted the circumstances surrounding the original video. She explained that her son had been upset after she served him plantain and stew rather than the yam dish he prefers. His tears quickly turned into laughter when his grandmother began singing a humorous song to console him.
Madam Rosina also stressed that the video was never meant to go viral and intended for private sharing with family. Initially stunned to see it online, she even contemplated legal action against whoever leaked it, believing that her brother had recorded it with intentions to send it to their father.
