'Hope' is Gary Lineker's four-word response to Trent Alexander-Arnold trading to Real Madrid.
Trent Alexander Gary Lineker has urged Liverpool supporters to give Arnold a fitting send-off as it appears more and more probable that he will join Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Ahead of what looks to be a historic move to Real Madrid, Gary Lineker has stated his support for Trent Alexander-Arnold. Even though not every Liverpool supporter feels the same way, the Match of the Day host is ecstatic for the England defender.
Alexander-Arnold's current contract with Liverpool expires in June, and it appears more likely that he will sign a free transfer to Los Blancos this summer. Additionally, Reds supporters have criticised the 26-year-old for the way the eagerly awaited transfer has transpired.
According to reports in January, Liverpool rejected Real Madrid's £15 million approach, depriving the team of their final opportunity to obtain a sum for the player. However, Lineker argues that Alexander-Arnold is about to make what he calls "an absolutely fabulous move" and that the acclaimed Premier League and Champions League winner has been unfairly disparaged.
He stated, "It looks like it might happen, but we're not sure yet," on the podcast The Rest Is Football. "Clearly, an approach has been made. Additionally, he has received some criticism from Liverpool supporters and others.
"I think it would be a really great move for him, and I don't mind expressing that. It's really hard to say no to playing for Real Madrid, in my opinion. Since he was a little child, he has been at Liverpool. When you play for a club like that, it takes him to a new level.
"It will be spectacular for him. Because they enjoy watching beautiful, attacking football and because he is among the best ball passers in the world of football, he is their kind of player.
British football fans "tend to focus on the negative or weakness" in players, according to Lineker, who played for Barcelona for three years. He suggested that the dynamic is different in Spain. Other Real graduates, such as Michael Owen and Gareth Bale, who also left Liverpool to join Real, could disagree.
