Private legal practitioner and radio show host on Wontumi Radio, Maurice Ampaw, has come out strongly against the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the party of attempting to undermine Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. Ampaw claims that the NDC used her as a political tool to secure electoral victory, and now seems intent on making her role ineffective.
During his radio show on Monday, March 31, 2025, the controversial lawyer asserted that the NDC's true intentions are evident in their plans to send the Vice President abroad for treatment while assigning her responsibilities to someone else. "I pray that Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang will recover," he stated emphatically. "We don’t want dark clouds hovering over the presidency, nor do we want anyone scheming to take the woman’s place."
Reflecting on her role, Ampaw suggested that the Vice President has not been effective since taking office. "She was evidently fatigued during the campaign, yet she was pushed to carry out extensive political engagements to help secure power for the NDC. Now, it appears they are abandoning her," he argued. He went on to highlight that her absence from important trips and the lack of adequate presentation in her public engagements hint at a disregard for her position.
Ampaw asserted that it seems as though someone else is already performing her duties as Vice President, despite her being alive. "We pray for her health so that she can enjoy the fruits of her labor," he added, expressing concern over any possible scheming against her.
On Sunday, March 30, 2025, the Presidency's Communications Directorate confirmed that the Vice President had been admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) due to an unexpected health incident. The statement, issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Minister for Government Communications, advised that medical experts recommended further treatment abroad for her complete recovery. "We extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to the Vice President," the statement concluded, but the sentiments expressed by Ampaw reflect a growing unease regarding the circumstances surrounding her current position and health.
