GES Reschedules Reopening Date for Single-Track SHSs to April 23, 2025
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially rescheduled the reopening date for single-track Senior High Schools (SHSs) to April 23, 2025. This decision affects all SHSs operating under the single-track system and follows adjustments made to accommodate public holidays and ensure a more organized academic schedule.
Initially, students were supposed to return to school on March 29, 2025, after vacating on March 4. However, due to the upcoming Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations on March 30 and 31, followed by public holidays on March 31 and April 1, the reopening was first postponed to April 1, 2025. After further evaluation, the GES decided to extend it even further to April 23, 2025, to prevent disruptions and allow for better preparation.
Reasons for the Postponement
One of the key reasons for this decision is the overlap of the school reopening date with major holidays. If students had returned on March 29 as originally scheduled, the back-to-back holidays would have interrupted school activities, leading to an inconsistent start to the academic term. By delaying reopening, the GES ensures that students return to a stable and structured school environment, maximizing learning time.
Another major reason for the postponement is the need for improved academic planning. The extension gives school authorities additional time to finalize lesson schedules, prepare learning materials, and ensure that all necessary resources are in place for a smooth transition into the new term. This helps maintain continuity in the curriculum and enhances overall academic performance.
Impact of the New Reopening Date
For students, the delay means an extended vacation period. While this could be an opportunity for additional revision and preparation, there is also a risk that some students might become disengaged from their studies. Parents and guardians are encouraged to support their children in using this time productively by encouraging them to review past lessons and stay academically active.
For teachers and school administrators, the extra time allows for better planning and preparation. They can use this period to refine lesson plans, address logistical challenges, and ensure that the school environment is fully ready for students’ return.
In conclusion, while the new reopening date might be an inconvenience for some, it ultimately serves to create a more effective and well-organized academic calendar. Students, parents, and teachers are advised to take note of the new reopening date and make the necessary preparations to ensure a smooth and productive return to school ofn April 23, 2025.
