"I SPENT MY OWN MONEY TO PROMOTE THIS ALBUM, BUT ALL THEY TALK ABOUT IS MY OUTFIT" – CINA SOUL

Ghanaian singer Cina Soul has addressed recent discussions about her outfit in a dance promo video for her new song. The conversation gained traction after Kumawood actor Big Akwes criticized her appearance on Max TV’s entertainment show. According to him, Cina Soul deliberately dressed inappropriately to gain attention, stating that her approach to promoting her music was misguided. His comments sparked debate, with many questioning the relevance of such scrutiny when discussing an artist’s work.

In response, Cina Soul took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her frustration over how much attention was given to her outfit rather than her music. She pointed out that despite investing her own money into making and promoting her debut album *Did I Lie?, discussions about her work were overshadowed by criticism of her clothing. “You see o, this is why I choose who/where I interview. I spent so much of my OWN money to make and promote this album, and not a single word from any of them. But let Cina Soul wear a crop top and cargo pants for some DANCE content, and it sends them into a frenzy because ‘fiRsT nO nA )nDreZi sei.’ I just want to make music, bro,” she wrote.

Cina’s post resonated with many fans and fellow artists, who came to her defense. Singer Efya also weighed in, making it clear that she would not tolerate any slander against Cina Soul. The conversation has reignited discussions about the double standards female artists face in the industry, where their fashion choices often receive more attention than their artistry.

While criticism of artists’ appearance is not new, many believe it reflects a deeper issue within the Ghanaian entertainment industry—where women are frequently judged based on their looks rather than their talent. Cina Soul’s response highlights her frustration with this reality and reinforces the call for industry conversations to prioritize artistic work over superficial critiques.
