Parliament has given the green light for the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to engage with two Members of Parliament (MPs) in connection with an ongoing investigation.
According to an official statement issued by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Speaker Alban Bagbin has granted approval for Mustapha Yussif, the MP for Yagaba Kubori, and Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, the MP for Gomoa Central, to meet with representatives from the NIB.
However, the statement emphasized that the meeting will be conducted under specific guidelines. The Speaker’s directive is grounded in Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution, which outline the procedures regarding the interaction between Parliament and security agencies. Based on these provisions and established protocols, the meeting is to take place within the premises of Parliament.
The meeting has been scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM. It will be held in the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room, which is located within the Office of the Speaker. To ensure due process is followed, both MPs have been advised to have their legal representatives accompany them during the session. This measure is intended to uphold their rights and ensure a fair process.
Additionally, Parliament has directed NIB officials to liaise with the Legal Services Office upon their arrival. This coordination aims to facilitate a smooth engagement and reinforce the procedural integrity of the meeting.
As of now, the exact nature of the investigation remains undisclosed. The lack of public details about the inquiry has led to speculation about the possible reasons behind the NIB’s request to meet the two lawmakers. However, the decision to allow the meeting under structured conditions demonstrates Parliament’s commitment to transparency and adherence to legal procedures.
This development has drawn public interest, given the involvement of two sitting MPs. Mustapha Yussif is a well-known politician with significant influence in his constituency, while Kwame Asare Obeng, widely recognized as A Plus, is known for his outspoken nature and active role in national discourse. Their summons for an investigative meeting has therefore sparked discussions about the possible implications for their political careers and the broader political landscape.
While there is no official confirmation on what the investigation entails, Parliament’s decision to oversee the meeting within its premises ensures that the rights of the MPs are safeguarded. By enforcing legal representation and involving the Legal Services Office, Parliament is upholding its role as a protector of due process.
The coming days may shed more light on the reason behind the investigation. For now, attention remains on the scheduled meeting, as stakeholders await further updates on the matter.
