Kuami Eugene to donate revenue from his rendition of ‘Awoo Mawugné’ to Omar B’s family
Ghanaian musician and producer Kuami Eugene has honored the legacy of the late Togolese music icon, Omar B, whose real name was Ahiangban Omar, by recording a rendition of his classic hit, Awoo Mawugné.
Kuami Eugene shared that he was first introduced to Omar B’s music by a friend who noticed similarities in their songwriting, singing, and production styles. Intrigued by the comparison, he decided to learn more about Omar B and discovered that the Togolese musician had passed away at a peak moment in his career, leaving behind a young family.
Moved by this realization, Kuami Eugene felt compelled to record his own version of Awoo Mawugné, a song that had deeply resonated with him. More than just a tribute, he has decided that all revenue generated from the track will be donated directly to Omar B’s family.
Explaining his decision, Kuami Eugene stated, “After I got the translation of the song from some friends, I realized that Omar B had crafted incredibly powerful lyrics. That’s when I decided to do a rendition in his honor.”
He further emphasized that the project is not for financial gain but rather a gesture of love and respect. “This is not for profit. It’s purely out of love and respect. I have no intention of exploiting this work. All revenues generated from this upload will go directly to Omar B’s family,” he assured.
Kuami Eugene hopes that the song will gain significant traction, generate substantial views, and ultimately raise a considerable amount of money for Omar B’s family. He has encouraged fans and music lovers to support the cause by streaming and sharing the song.
Omar B was a highly influential figure in the Togolese music industry, inspiring many young talents with his unique artistry and rapid success. His musical journey saw him rise to fame quickly, earning a reputation as one of Togo’s most promising artists. His third album, Me, Myself and I, was released in 2019, further cementing his status in the industry.
Tragically, Omar B’s flourishing career was cut short when he suffered a fatal heart attack on February 20, 2020, at the age of 35. His untimely passing left a void in the music industry and in the hearts of his fans.
Kuami Eugene’s decision to honor Omar B through his music reflects a deep appreciation for the late artist’s work and a commitment to supporting his surviving family. The initiative not only keeps Omar B’s legacy alive but also provides financial assistance to those he left behind.
By dedicating the song’s proceeds to Omar B’s family, Kuami Eugene demonstrates the power of music as a tool for both remembrance and generosity. The tribute serves as a call for audiences to rally behind the cause, ensuring that Omar B’s contributions to music continue to be recognized and appreciated for years to come.
