Arsenal's hopes of defeating Real Madrid, holders of the UEFA Champions League, in the quarterfinals have been dashed after the Premier League club announced that Gabriel's hamstring injury will necessitate surgery. After pulling up while holding his hamstring against Fulham, the Brazil defender, who is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024/25 season, was substituted just 16 minutes into The Gunners' 2-1 victory. Arsenal will be without Gabriel for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign with the defender set to undergo surgery for a hamstring injury, the club confirmed on Thursday.

This season, the Brazil defender has played a crucial role for Arsenal in defense while also scoring goals from set pieces, scoring five this season. Gabi felt something in his hamstring. We have no idea how big that is. With Jurrien, he was already struggling very early in the game. He continued, but at one point he was unable to. Jurrien was his knee."

The injury to Gabriel's hamstring continues an unwelcome pattern for Arsenal this season. After being out since December with a hamstring injury, Bukayo Saka played against Fulham again, and Kai Havertz is out for the rest of the season with a similar injury. The Gunners face Real Madrid in the quarterfinals on April 8 and 16 as they attempt to win their first UEFA Champions League title. TNT Sports and discovery+ will broadcast the second leg, which takes place at the Bernabeu, live. "Further to being substituted during our match against Fulham on Tuesday, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhaes has sustained a hamstring injury that requires surgery," the organization stated in a statement. Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days, and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season. Everyone at the club will be fully focused on supporting Gabi to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible."

They face Everton next at Goodison Park on Saturday, but a bigger test comes just three days later, when the Gunners host Real Madrid at the Emirates Stadium for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
