MTN GHANA CEO EXPOSES MOBILE MONEY SCAM EXPERIENCE

MTN Ghana’s CEO, Stephen Blewett, has shared a personal encounter with mobile money fraudsters, highlighting the growing concerns over financial scams in the country. His revelation comes as part of his reflections on his first anniversary leading the telecommunications giant.

According to Blewett, the incident took place during his first month at MTN Ghana when he received a call from a fraudster attempting to deceive him into believing he had mistakenly transferred money. Instead of falling for the scam, he decided to engage the fraudster in a prolonged conversation to prevent the individual from targeting someone else.

He explained that the caller insisted on the false claim, persistently trying to convince him. However, Blewett remained calm and continued the discussion for about fifteen minutes, knowing that this tactic would at least delay the fraudster from moving on to another victim. Eventually, he revealed his identity as the CEO of MTN Ghana, a revelation that left the scammer in disbelief. The fraudster, realizing the truth, became frustrated and abruptly ended the call.

Blewett used this experience to emphasize the importance of remaining vigilant against mobile money fraud, urging customers to be cautious of such deceptive schemes. He reassured MTN users that the company is dedicated to implementing measures to combat fraudulent activities. He stressed that protecting customers from financial scams is a priority, and efforts are being made to enhance security systems to ensure safer transactions.
