The RFEF will not change Dani Olmo's rule.
There will be no changes to the article that prevents a player from being registered twice in the same season by the same team, since the objective and spirit of this rule is to protect the contractual relationship of a player with his club.
Yesterday, the CSD ( Spanish Football Council) upheld the precautionary measure, accepting the appeal filed by FC Barcelona at the beginning of January after Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor were deregistered. This measure was adopted by LaLiga due to the fact that the Blaugrana team failed to comply with financial fair play by December 31, 2024. And since they were no longer registered for not meeting this mandatory financial criterion according to LaLiga 's financial control criteria , they could no longer be registered again as of January 2. Barcelona had already submitted the funds to comply with the regulations at that time. Something that is now also in question.
And it couldn't be done because then the RFEF regulations appeared . Specifically, Article 130 of the RFEF General Regulations specifies that "a footballer may be registered with only one club's team, without the possibility of being released and reinstated by that club during the course of the same season, except in cases of force majeure or regulatory provision. Likewise, during the course of the season, they may not be registered and play for more than three different teams."
That is, this RFEF article appeared where it makes clear that, by canceling the licenses of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor on December 31 , they could no longer be registered again from January 2. Because it then meant the second time with the Barça club in the current 2024-2025 season.
The possibility that the RFEF could modify this rule was then considered. This is not going to happen because it was originally intended not for this specific scenario but for a more global and very important objective. This rule was put in place to ensure and protect a player's contractual relationship, that is, to achieve stability. In other words, to prevent clubs from indiscriminately signing and releasing players during the season.
Changes pending approval by the CSD
And even to prevent clubs from being able to sign reserve team players to the first team in very specific situations and then release them after a match. And to repeat this pattern throughout the season.
A change that, in addition to being approved by the RFEF's Executive Committee , also requires ratification by the CSD 's Board of Directors . This committee is still pending regulatory changes submitted by the RFEF several seasons ago.
