Ghanaian rapper King Paluta has found himself in the middle of an online debate after publicly acknowledging that he received money from former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the 2024 election campaign season. His admission came just a day after he took to social media to question the loyalty of some influencers who had shifted their support to other artistes ahead of the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

On April 2, 2025, King Paluta posted on X, expressing disappointment over a particular influencer who, according to him, had previously supported his bid for Artiste of the Year but had suddenly thrown support behind another artiste. The post sparked quick reactions, with many questioning his comments about influencers allegedly receiving payments to promote specific artistes. This controversy ignited a broader discussion about how loyalty in the entertainment industry is often linked to financial transactions and political interests.

One user responded to King Paluta's complaint, pointing out what they described as hypocrisy. The user reminded him that during the political campaign season, he performed for the New Patriotic Party, specifically at rallies for Dr. Bawumia, and it was widely believed that he was paid for his appearance. The user questioned why he was surprised that influencers were now also accepting money for promotional work.

The rapper responded to that claim without denying it, instead confirming the speculation in a lighthearted manner. In response to the user’s post, King Paluta wrote, “The money I took from Baweezy deɛ, e really pain boys.” This response sent social media into a frenzy, with many interpreting it as a clear confirmation that he received a significant amount of money for his involvement in the campaign events of the ruling party’s candidate.

His statement has since drawn mixed reactions. While some fans feel disappointed by his actions and comments, others have defended him, arguing that artistes and influencers alike deserve to be paid for their work, regardless of whether it is in music, politics, or digital marketing. Supporters of King Paluta believe that his political engagement was part of his professional career and does not disqualify him from speaking out about influencer dynamics in the industry.

The rapper, whose real name has not been widely publicized, has had a strong year musically, with his hits “Aseda” and “Makoma” enjoying massive airplay across the country. He is currently seen as one of the top contenders for the 2025 Artiste of the Year award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards. Despite the recent controversies, his popularity remains high, with many praising his ability to blend traditional rhythms with modern rap.

However, his latest comments have reignited conversations around the role of money and political connections in the music industry. Many fans are questioning whether the growing influence of political money in entertainment is damaging the credibility of the industry. While it is not uncommon for musicians to be hired to perform at political rallies, some believe that artistes who receive money from politicians should not criticize influencers or fans who switch their support based on similar financial arrangements.

This development has also raised concerns about transparency and influence in the music award space. With the Artiste of the Year race heating up, there is growing attention on how social media trends, influencer endorsements, and political affiliations could impact the results. King Paluta’s revelation has added a new layer to this conversation, especially as fans look for authenticity in their favourite artistes.

King Paluta’s fan base remains divided. While many are rallying behind him and urging people to focus on his talent rather than his political ties, others feel he should be more careful with his public comments, especially during award season. Some fans have also advised him to remain focused on his music and allow the work to speak for itself, rather than engaging in social media debates that could distract from his achievements.

As the date for the TGMA approaches, the spotlight on King Paluta is expected to intensify. His ability to manage both public scrutiny and personal opinions will likely influence how the public views him, not only as a musician but also as a public figure. For now, his honesty about his political earnings has sparked necessary conversations about fairness, loyalty, and money in Ghana’s music scene.
