Viktor Gyokeres, a striker for Sporting CP, is said to prefer Arsenal over Manchester United, giving the race to sign him a new twist. Another report claims that Arsenal have given Gyokeres precedence over Newcastle star Alexander Isak and that Liverpool and Mikel Arteta's team are keeping an eye on the "new Riyad Mahrez." According to the publication, Gyokeres "is believed to be leaning more towards the Gunners due to their current form of competing for the Prem title and the Champions League, as well as manager Mikel Arteta's record of improving players in the toughest division in world football." "Bera, the new sporting director, is a huge fan of the player as well. The Italian's first task in his new position will be to quickly close a significant deal to demonstrate his worth to Arsenal's board and fans. "However, Gyokeres still has a soft spot for Ruben Amorim - his old boss at Sporting - and could be swayed regardless of United enduring one of the worst seasons in their history."

"Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah FC are ready to ruffle a few feathers in the battle for Gyokeres' signature," the report continues. "Al Qadsiah are capable of offering just that, even if it means going above and beyond Gyokeres’ current value," the statement reads. "Sporting will want the biggest up-front fee they can get instead of several low-fee instalments." Chronicle Live, based in Newcastle, claims that Arsenal are pursuing Viktor Gyokeres rather than Alexander Isak. Isak has reportedly been at the top of the Gunners' wish list for a new striker, but their priorities have apparently changed. "Arsenal are ready to move on from their interest in Alexander Isak after identifying Sporting Lisbon hotshot Victor Gyokeres as one of their main summer targets," reads the article.

"The Gunners' new transfer chief Andrea Berta's arrival also raises new questions about whether Arsenal will pursue Isak in the recruitment process under the new boardroom leadership. When he was in charge of the La Liga club, the former sporting director of Atletico Madrid did not make a move for Isak, even though Newcastle pursued the striker when he was with Real Sociedad. "Gyokeres, Isak's Sweden teammate, would cost £58.5 million, £25 million less than his release clause, despite concerns about Arsenal's spending capacity. If Isak's representatives began to make a fuss, Newcastle would place an astronomical asking price on his shoulders and would have no interest in selling him."
