Paul Adom-Otchere, a veteran media personality and erstwhile Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, recently openly accused Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, an MP for Gomoa Central, of corruption.
During a show segment on Good Evening Ghana, Adom-Otchere accused A Plus of having lost his previous vigor against corruption, citing that he had been purchased by money.
A Plus, whose vocal anti-misgovernance activism has positioned him as an irritant to politicians, has recently been attacked by Adom-Otchere.
The media host accused the MP of becoming "muted" and ceasing his vociferous criticism of the political machinery after what he alleged was a fortune from the government for parliamentary projects.
The MP had allegedly received GH¢400,000 in disbursements, Adom-Otchere stated, surmising this was the reason for the MP's new attitude.
During the live broadcast, Adom-Otchere mocked A Plus for his silence about politics, wanting to know if the MP was the same that had previously shouted against corruption under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and even sang a song in support of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before.
The host complained, suggesting that Ghanaians expected something more from A Plus, a loud anticorruption crusader and political misgovernance critic.
Responding to these allegations, A Plus vehemently denied receiving any amounts of money personally.
He clarified that the GH¢200,000, along with the remainder of the GH¢100,000 distributions, were part of a broader government initiative aimed at funding constituency development.
According to A Plus, the funds would not be channeled into his individual bank account, but would instead be managed by the District Assembly in their implementation of community-based ventures.
This interaction has created public debate about how funding affects political leaders and how they perceive leadership, showing the complexity of political activism and public service in Ghana. This allegations may lead to further investigation on Mahama.
