Bawumia’s Aide-de-Camp Alleges Armed Raid on His Residence by National Security
Superintendent Yakubu Issahaku, who served as the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has alleged that his private residence at Sapeiman, a suburb of Accra, was forcefully raided by heavily armed National Security operatives. The alleged incident took place on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
Issahaku claims he received a WhatsApp message from a friend at approximately 6:14 p.m., alerting him to the raid. According to the message, around 30 masked military officers, all armed, had stormed his home without warning or a warrant. He stated that the operatives caused extensive damage to the property while conducting a thorough search.
Among the damages reported were broken security doors, dismantled CCTV systems, and the removal of several electronic items. These included internet routers, switches, and a hard disk believed to contain surveillance footage. Issahaku stressed that every room in the house was searched without any explanation or legal documentation to justify the operation.
He further alleged that the officer leading the raid was a police superintendent currently stationed at the Jubilee House, operating from a location known as the Blue Gate. Notably, Issahaku claimed to personally know this officer, and emphasized that their familiarity made the incident even more alarming. According to him, the superintendent was fully aware of their previous professional relationship.
The raid has raised serious concerns regarding the conduct of National Security operatives and how they treat individuals formerly associated with high-ranking government officials. Given Issahaku’s role as ADC to a former Vice President, questions have emerged about whether the incident was politically motivated or part of a broader operation targeting those once in power.
No official statement has yet been issued by National Security regarding the allegations, and the reasons for the raid remain unclear. The incident, however, comes at a time of heightened political tension, with other reports recently surfacing about unusual security activities in the Sapeiman area—including a separate discovery involving Bank of Ghana cash boxes.
The broader public reaction has been one of concern, especially given the lack of transparency surrounding the operation and the perceived intimidation of a former high-ranking security officer. Political analysts and civil society organizations are calling for a thorough investigation into the matter to determine whether proper procedures were followed and to ensure accountability from the operatives involved.
As developments unfold, many are waiting for clarification from the government or the National Security Secretariat on the legality and justification of the raid.
