Following Hearts of Oak's 1-0 victory over FC Samartex on the last day of the 2024–25 Ghana Premier League season, head coach Aboubakar Ouattara was gushing over his team on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to reporters following the match at Accra Sports Stadium, the coach acknowledged the caliber of the opposition's squad and said it was difficult for his team to win all three points against the winners from the previous season.

"This is among the Premier League's best and most pleasant teams. Remember that they were last season's champs. Although it was difficult, we were able to secure the three points. We made our ailing athletes play despite their injuries. Coach Aboubakar Ouattara remarked, "We got the three points, and we go again next season."

Hearts of Oak finished fifth in the Ghana Premier League standings with 58 points, tied with rivals Asante Kotoko, who finished fourth, despite their victory over FC Samartex on the last day.

Despite losing to Vision FC in their season-ending match, the Porcupine Warriors' head-to-head advantage against the Phobians guaranteed them a berth in the top four.

The Ghana Premier League relegation of Accra Lions joins that of Legon Cities and Nsoatreman FC.

On the last day of the 2024–2025 season, Accra Lions suffered a devastating 4-0 loss against newly crowned champions Gold Stars FC, resulting in their official relegation from the Ghana Premier League.

At Bibiani's Duns Park, a dominant Gold Stars team spectacularly won their first league title, ending the Lions' illustrious top-flight run. Abdul Farouk Amoaful and Kelvin Oppong gave the champions the lead in the first half, while Samuel Kumi and Frank Amankwah sealed the victory in the second.

Accra Lions dropped to 15th place as a result of the defeat, ensuring their elimination from the top division just one year after finishing second in the 2023–2024 season. For a team that only had such promise a season ago, it is a precipitous and abrupt slide.

They are one of the three demoted clubs this season, along with Legon Cities and Nsoatreman FC. With a 4-1 loss to Dreams FC, Legon Cities' campaign came to an end before the final round of games. Conversely, Nsoatreman FC was automatically relegated after being kicked out of the league halfway through the season.

The day belonged to Gold Stars FC, who raised the league title for the first time in their existence, while the Lions bowed out under solemn circumstances. They defeated Nations FC and Heart of Lions in a fierce title battle, and their dominant performance highlighted a memorable and reliable campaign.

There were many triumphs, heartaches, and historic moments at the end of the 2024–25 Ghana Premier League season, but none were more important than the Gold Stars' resounding victory and the Accra Lions' sudden decline.
